Evaluation at Hochschule Geisenheim University is based on § 14 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) and aims to safeguard and continually improve the quality of teaching and learning at the university.
To achieve this, various standardized student surveys are conducted throughout the 'Student Life Cycle', a student's journey from before their enrolment to graduation and beyond. Different methods are used depending on the purpose of the evaluation.
Hochschule Geisenheim University is a member of the German Society for Evaluation and is committed to its standards.
All our evaluation efforts rely on active participation, so please get involved!
The term ‘evaluation’ covers all procedures for the systematic collection, analysis and evaluation of data related to learning and teaching at HGU in order to assess whether educational tasks are being fulfilled. It serves as the basis for introducing concrete measures for further improving the teaching and learning experience at the university. The first step is determining what areas need evaluation and then developing an appropriate instrument to collect data, normally a questionnaire. The information and data is then collected, processed, analyzed, and finally summarized and interpreted in a report.
With each survey, we learn something new. We use the information provided by our survey participants to assess and improve our academic programs, including the learning environment and infrastructure on campus. In order to create a culture that's receptive to this form of assessment and to support the moderation of quality development activities between all stakeholders, an Evaluation Advisor for the university is appointed by the Senate. Professor Robert Göbel currently holds this position. He and the quality development team can be contacted for any questions related to quality development at the university.
Hochschule Geisenheim University regularly conducts the following quality development tasks: class evaluations, first semester surveys, student experience surveys and the national alumni survey.
