We are Hochschule Geisenheim University

As Germany's first Hochschule neuen Typs – or ‘new type’ of university – we create and leverage synergies between education, practice, and research. Our students benefit from a high level of interdisciplinarity and can pursue academic development from Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees through to a doctorate. Sustainability and climate protection are integral to all degree programs and are continuously reinforced through interdisciplinary courses and ongoing professional development for teaching staff. We are committed to the Whole Institution Approach and are consistently transforming our campus into a place of teaching and learning for sustainability. Located in a unique cultural landscape, our campus is closely connected to the Rhine-Main metropolitan region. Our students benefit from an excellent learning and teaching environment, supported by a service-oriented university staff.

We promote practical relevance and the development of skills

Our Bachelor’s degree programs are practice-oriented and professionally qualifying, enabling our graduates to enter the workforce directly. Our academically grounded Master’s programs open up diverse career paths, including in research. We maintain close ties with industry, municipalities, and other socially relevant institutions, working together on current and future-focused issues in both teaching and research. Based on university's competency model, we foster students’ personal responsibility and provide them with subject-specific expertise as well as key interdisciplinary skills. We empower our students to reflect independently on their actions within a societal context and to contribute to solving current and future challenges. We support their personal development and strengthen their ability to act in line with the principles of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

We stand for a modern academic culture

We support our students with transparent, comprehensive information and guidance and place the highest value on programs that are academically sound and structured for successful study. We employ modern didactic methods, including digital teaching formats. Our degree programs are characterized by a wide range of modules that integrate theory and practice. Students learn and conduct research in state-of-the-art laboratories, on expansive research areas, and through project-based collaboration with partners from industry and public life beyond the campus. A strong culture of feedback and critical reflection forms the foundation for the ongoing development of our teaching. Students participate actively and are given space to help shape their learning environment.

We embrace internationality

We maintain a strong global network with renowned partner universities and institutions. Our programs, which include international and English-taught degrees, bring together students from over 50 countries, fostering internationality on our campus. We support students in studying abroad. The active international exchange of teaching staff is reflected by our globally-oriented teaching. In this way, we facilitate intercultural encounters, cross-border experiences, and the development of foreign language skills. We prepare our students for the global job market and support them in their personal development.

We value diversity and social inclusion

A welcoming culture, kindness, and mutual respect shape how all members of the university interact with each other and with external partners. We are committed to equal opportunity. We value and welcome diversity and the potential it brings. We actively promote inclusive, discrimination-free teaching and learning environments. We uphold the values of a family-friendly university and respectful interaction. An awareness of sustainability and social responsibility is embedded in our teaching and reflected in the actions of each individual.
