As a university with a speciality in viticulture and enology, we focus on foundational and applied research, emphasizing its practical implementation. At our university winery, we can employ this application-oriented research with traditional winemaking methods, exploring the possibilities of wine under our guiding principle: quality is created in the vineyard, and outside influence during the winemaking process should be limited.
You will find a brief overview of our diverse wines below, which cover an interesting range of grape varieties due to the trans-regional nature of the university's research activities. Since its not just the variety, but also the location of the vines and other environmental influences that defines the quality of the grape, we also provide information about our terroir.
You can find us in our winery shop, but we can also be found in attendance at a wide range of events – we’d love to see you there some time!

"Our WISSENSDURST line will quench your thirst for knowledge, giving you a tangible way to explore our latest research findings in viticulture and enology!" – Ludwig Pasch, Department of Enology
The Krähennest is a university vineyard that spans 14 terraces and 2,800 square meters. Managed by students as part of their education, it provides practical experience with the organic cultivation of Riesling, enhancing biodiversity in vineyards, and preserving the Rheingau's cultural landscape.
High-quality wines require dedicated teamwork.
Especially in light of the university's focus on research, collaboration and coordination between the various departments involved with the vineyard, namely the Departments of Grapevine Breeding, Viticulture, and Enology, play a particularly important role.

Hochschule Geisenheim University's Winery represents a collaboration between three departments: Grapevine Breeding, Viticulture, and Enology. The two cultivation-focused departments are responsible for maintaining and harvesting approximately 23 hectares of vineyard, whereas the Department of Enology handles the processing of the grapes, wine production, and the marketing or the final product.
Our vineyards are located in Geisenheim, Rüdesheim, and – particularly as a way to complement our research focus on steep-slope viticulture – also in Kaub.
Our range of grape varieties is somewhat unusual for the Rheingau region, which is usually dominated by Riesling. While we still have our bases covered with Riesling and Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder), we also grow a variety of national and international grape varieties.
At the heart of our work is research aimed at improving and securing wine quality. The university winery plays a key role in translating research findings into practical application, and the awards we have received only highlight the success of our approach.
If you love variety, our university winery is the perfect place for you.
Thanks to our wide range of grape varieties, our Villa Monrepos line offers a diverse and ever-changing selection of white and red wines, each showcasing the unique characteristics of the respective grape varieties.
Our Riesling wines, led by our flagship "Von Lade", represent a more traditional, mature Riesling style compared to those in the Monrepos line.
In addition to our Villa Monrepos red wines, we also offer a selection of red blends (cuvées) and Weissherbst rosés.
If you're looking for an aperitif or dessert wine, be sure to try our Schatzkammer wines. Guests are also sure to enjoy one of our various fruit brandies, wine distillates, and liqueurs.
Naturally, we also produce outstanding sparkling wines, perfect not only for New Year's Eve or classic receptions, but for any celebratory occasion.
We also offer a selection of fruit juices. We regularly have seasonal juices such as grape juice, blackcurrant nectar, or mixed fruit juices, all sourced directly from our own university orchard – just ask what's available!
The vineyard sites determine the natural growing conditions of the grapes through their geographic location. The unique combination of soil, climate, and topography, along with numerous other factors, shapes the distinctive origin of the grapes and plays a crucial role in the development of wine quality, especially through the formation and accumulation of flavor compounds and aromatic substances.
In combination with our diverse range of grape varieties, sustainable vineyard practices, and a winemaking philosophy of 'as little as possible, as much as necessary', we strive to offer wines that reflect both varietal character and terroir-driven origin.
Our vineyards cover approximately 23 hectares, with 82.5% planted with white grape varieties.
As is typical for the Rheingau region, the focus is on Riesling, complemented by high-quality national and international varieties such as Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Gris (Grauburgunder), Pinot Blanc (Weißburgunder), Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, and Sauvignon Blanc.
The remaining 17.5% is planted with blue (red) grape varieties, primarily Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder), supplemented by Pinot Madeleine (Frühburgunder), St. Laurent, Merlot, Zweigelt, Regent, Gamaret, and Garanoir.
