CULT - A cooperative network
CULT is a cooperative network concerned with the sustainable development of the cultural landscape.
With the three fields of activity Science, Practice and Discourse, we network research and practice. We promote the transfer of knowledge to address the pressing problem areas of cultural landscape development:
Historical cultural landscape
KuLaDig
The digital system KuLaDig (Kulturlandschaft Digital) for recording and displaying cultural landscape elements is used to solve a variety of different cultural landscape issues, for example in regional development, nature conservation, environmental education and tourism. In order to promote networking between the various KuLaDig stakeholders and create synergies for the future, a transnational KuLaDig working group was founded under the umbrella of KULT. This group meets at regular intervals.
Landscape development in the Ukraine
The National Polytechnic University of Ukraine in Lviv (Lemberg) has been cooperating with Hochschule Geisenheim University for two years now. Together with the Viacheslav Chornovil Institute for Sustainable Development, the Cultural Landscape Competence Center (KULT) at Hochschule Geisenheim University has been working on landscape development issues in Ukraine. As part of this cooperation, Geisenheim scientists Dr. Martin Reiss and Dr. Jörn Schultheiß took part in the "Visiting Professor Program" in Lviv and have now been awarded a certificate. Together with their Ukrainian colleague, Dr Maryana Senkiv, they are offering a course on the digitization of features of Ukrainian cultural landscapes, thus contributing to the preservation of Ukraine's cultural heritage. When reconstruction begins, such documentation can be used, for example, for the proper reconstruction of culturally and historically valuable assets. This fits in thematically with the activities of KULT, which organizes a nationwide working group for the KuLaDig (Kulturlandschaft Digital) system and is involved in several projects for the digitization of cultural landscapes in Germany.
