With a clear goal: to optimally support doctoral candidates throughout their entire research journey – from the first steps in independent research to targeted preparation for the next career stage.
Interdisciplinary networking plays a central role: formats such as the Science Pub or the Lecture Seminar Sessions promote cross-disciplinary exchange and strengthen the scientific community. This is complemented by a structured qualification program focusing on transferable skills, key competencies, and personal development.

Networking and exchange are at the heart of our research culture.
Doctoral candidates present their projects at the beginning and end of their doctorate in ~20-minute talks, explore guest researchers’ work, and refine their research. Final presentations also provide excellent preparation for the oral defense.
A session with 2 doctoral presentations or with 1 guest lecture counts as one credit toward a total of 12 required sessions.
Writing is an essential part of any PhD.
All doctoral candidates complete the 2-day Scientific Writing module, or alternatively, four tutorials plus individual writing coaching.
Equally central is Scientific Intergity.
The principles of responsible research are introduced from the start, raising awareness of ethical considerations and providing the foundation for successful and professional scientific work.
Flexible and targeted. Doctoral candidates choose five modules from areas such as career planning, research skills, and presentation techniques —selecting those that will best support their own research projects. External seminars or workshops can also be recognized upon request with submission of a certificate and module description.
Courses or seminars attended outside of Hochschule Geisenheim University may be credited upon request by submiting a certificate of attendance to the Doctoral Office.
