PACKAN: NEW PLATFORM FOR SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING PRESENTED BY DR. PATHAK AT FACHPACK 2025

Presentation of the PackAn project at Solpack 6.0 by Dr. Pathak

The PackAn research focus was presented to a broad audience at SOLPACK, which was organized by pacoon Sustainability Concepts GmbH as part of FACHPACK 2025 (September 23–25, Nuremberg). FACHPACK is one of the leading European trade fairs for packaging, technology and processes.
On September 25, 2025, Dr. Pathak, a scientific Assistant at the Institute for Fresh Product Logistics at Geisenheim University, presented the PackAn platform. She presented the tool developed in the project to a large audience. It enables a holistic assessment of packaging sustainability, taking into account the packaging material, the supply chain, and the properties of the food. She also demonstrated how the platform supports consumers in identifying sustainable packaging and thus making informed purchasing decisions for resource-efficient packaging.
Additional information about PackAn was available at the Repack Network booth at the trade fair on all three days, so that interested parties could discuss the topic directly with the project team.

Logistics University Ranking 2020: Hochschule Geisenheim University Among the Top Ten

Food Chain Management students improve their ranking among all institutions of higher education in the "Logistik Masters" competition by seven places compared to the previous year. Among universities of applied science, HGU moves up from 9th place in 2019 to 6th place.

For the second time after 2019, students of the B.Sc. Food Chain Management program participated in Germany's largest knowledge competition for logistics students - the "Logistik Masters" organized by the VerkehrsRundschau trade journal - coming in at an excellent 10th place among more than 60 participating universities, universities of applied science, and universities of cooperative education. Last year, Hochschule Geisenheim University ranked 17th. Among all participating universities of applied science, Hochschule Geisenheim University has also made significant progress, moving up from 9th place in 2019 to 6th place this year.

"The ranking shines a light on various aspects of logistics, and is one of the most important competitions in the logistics sector. The fact that we have outperformed so many renowned universities and institutions of higher education proves the high quality of teaching in our Food Chain Management degree program, which is geared towards industry needs and was launched only five years ago, said Prof. Dr. Holzapfel, Professor for Logistics Management at Hochschule Geisenheim University.

More than 900 students participated in the "Logistik Masters" competition this year. Between April and August, they received five questionnaires each comprising ten assignments from the areas of transport, shipping and logistics including two master assignments, which had been developed in cooperation with renowned professors and industry experts. The assignments focused on latest issues in the logistic industry, challenging students to put theory into practice.

The practical approach of HGU's Food Chain Management program is a huge advantage for students participating in the competition. Over a period of six semesters, the degree program provides latest specialist knowledge and expertise on all aspects concerning food management as well as planning and management of value and supply chains. In addition to providing profound product knowledge, the program also concentrates on topics such as production, quality and packaging, process management, storage and transport, and marketing of foodstuffs.

By selecting a profile, students can specialize in fresh produce logistics, supply chain management and food management. The degree program aims at high school graduates with an interest in food and logistics as well as individuals who have completed an apprenticeship in industrial business, freight forwarding, trade and commerce, or in the food sector.
