PACKAN: NEW PLATFORM FOR SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING PRESENTED BY DR. PATHAK AT FACHPACK 2025

Presentation of the PackAn project at Solpack 6.0 by Dr. Pathak

The PackAn research focus was presented to a broad audience at SOLPACK, which was organized by pacoon Sustainability Concepts GmbH as part of FACHPACK 2025 (September 23–25, Nuremberg). FACHPACK is one of the leading European trade fairs for packaging, technology and processes.
On September 25, 2025, Dr. Pathak, a scientific Assistant at the Institute for Fresh Product Logistics at Geisenheim University, presented the PackAn platform. She presented the tool developed in the project to a large audience. It enables a holistic assessment of packaging sustainability, taking into account the packaging material, the supply chain, and the properties of the food. She also demonstrated how the platform supports consumers in identifying sustainable packaging and thus making informed purchasing decisions for resource-efficient packaging.
Additional information about PackAn was available at the Repack Network booth at the trade fair on all three days, so that interested parties could discuss the topic directly with the project team.

Lecturers, students, alumni and the service facilities will be available to answer questions in webinars and online chats. Those interested can explore the campus using a 360° panoramic view.

The application procedure, course content or what life is like on our green campus: Prospective students have the opportunity to ask questions on these and other topics in person twice a year at Hochschule Geisenheim University's study information day. Despite these times of restricted contact, Hochschule Geisenheim University wishes to help high-school graduates, trainees and all those interested choose their future studies and profesional careers. This is why its information day will be available entirely in digital form between 1:00 and 5:30 p.m. on April 22, 2020. This new format will replace the event that was originally scheduled to take place on campus.

In webinars, prospective students can learn more about the Bachelor's degrees in Horticulture, Beverage Technology, International Wine Business, Landscape Architecture, Food Chain Management, Food Safety as well as Viticulture and Enology at first hand from the heads of the degree programs. In a direct exchange, they can pose any questions they may have concerning modules, specializations and career prospects. In addition, experts will be on hand for four hours to answer any questions about the obligatory pre-study internship, how to get it recognized and the companies that offer internships. The Admissions Office will be giving advice on enrolment and the Student Committee (AStA) will be providing information on what else life on campus has to offer besides lectures. The program will be rounded off by a "live from everyday campus life" interactive format featuring students, alumni and lecturers, together with 360° panoramic views of the greenhouses, lecture rooms and outdoor areas.

Digital technologies have been part and parcel of teaching and studying at Hochschule Geisenheim for some time now. Among other things, the University is participating in the joint state-wide project "Digitally Supported Teaching and Learning in Hesse", launched in early 2019. The aim of the project is to establish the didactic and technical prerequisites for the long-term use of new technologies in teaching by the end of this year. Due to the current exceptional situation, Hochschule Geisenheim University kicked off the current summer semester at the end of March with a wide range of digital content, such as webinars and podcasts.

Professor Alexander von Birgelen, Vice-President of Academic & Student Affairs at Hochschule Geisenheim University, recently described digitization one of the main drivers of innovative teaching; testing and developing new forms of teaching is high on his agenda. With its digital study information day on April 22, 2020, Hochschule Geisenheim University will also give prospective students an impression of what this could mean for their daily life at university.
