Since 2023, Hochschule Geisenheim University has been developing the GeisTreich knowledge transfer project in cooperation with the Institute for Social-Ecological Research (ISOE). The project has now reached an important milestone, launching a new website featuring information on the latest developments at the university, a calendar of upcoming events, as well as digestible insights into current research projects. The website aims to make research at the university more accessible and engaging for a wider audience, though it is currently only available in German.

The GeisTreich team has now unveiled their new ‘platform for knowledge’, designed to share short, digestible summaries of the unversity's latest research findings. With a focus on viticulture and cultural landscapes, the website offers interested users the chance to stay informed about ongoing research projects at Hochschule Geisenheim University and to connect to the right experts to gain deeper insights.

The new website is thoughtfully structured into six categories, allowing users to explore areas that align with their own personal interests. Whether its ‘Technology and Digitalization’, ‘Biological and Structural Diversity’, and – especially relevant for any winemakers – ‘Cultivation and Breeding’, users can navigate to curated overviews of projects in the given subject area. This user-friendly interface provides a window into the plethora of scientific activities underway at Hochschule Geisenheim University.

Among the featured topics is information about the multifunctional use of cultural landscapes, such as the agrivoltaic systems in the university's vineyards. These dual purpose systems simultaneously capture solar energy and help protect young vines.

Other Highlights

Upcoming projects and events that are part of the knowledge transfer program are also presented on the new website. One standout project currently in development is the HGU Research Trail, a 1.7-mile educational path winding through the university's test fields. With twelve informative stations, the trail offers visitors a unique opportunity to learn how Geisenheim researchers are shaping the future of viticulture and cultural landscapes. Updates on the trail’s progress and launch date will be shared via the GeisTreich website, Hochschule Geisenheim’s social media channels, and local media outlets.

GeisTreich, short for Geisenheimer Transferprogramm für artenreichen und multifunktionalen Weinbau (Geisenheim Knowledge Transfer Program for Biodiverse and Multifunctional Viticulture), is committed to fostering collaboration between researchers and regional stakeholders. By leveraging innovative knowledge-sharing approaches, the initiative seeks to co-develop strategies that ensure the long-term vitality of both viticulture and the surrounding cultural landscape. The GeisTreich profject is funded by the German Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space.
