Madina Akan has successfully defended her doctoral thesis with the title “Co-fermentation as a means to generate low alcohol beverages with full flavor” 

on December 1, 2025 at Hochschule Geisenheim University.

Her Doctorate was jointly supervised by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Wendland, Institute of Microbiology and Biochemistry at Hochschule Geisenheim University and Prof. Dr. Ronnie Willaert, Department of Bioengineering Sciences, Vrije Universiteit Brussel within the framework of an individual Joint-PHD-Contract agreed on with Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium for a Doctorate under international joint supervision leading to the award of a double degree.
