Under a clear blue sky, Hochschule Geisenheim University hosted a charity relay run that also marked the start of the university’s sports program for new students. The goal was to raise funds for a bench along the planned 'Forschungslehrpfad', a public trail that will highlight research at the university and its connections to the local region. The bench, named “Krähennestblick,” will be installed at Station 7 of the trail and dedicated to University President Professor Hans Reiner Schultz.

The event was organized together with the Turnerschaft Geisenheim – the town's gymnastics association – which handled both the athletic program and the food and refreshments. After a welcome from Frank Kilian, First Chair of the association, and Professor Annette Reineke, Vice-President of Research at Hochschule Geisenheim University, moderator Wolfgang Blum guided participants through the program. The various university sports clubs also introduced themselves and invited attendees to join in.

Four teams competed on the track for 15 minutes. For every 50-meter segment completed, €5 was donated.

The teams and their results were as follows:

  • Students of Geisenheim University: 1st place with an impressive 5,250 meters
  • Geisenheim Town Administration: 2nd place with 4,350 meters
  • Hochschule Geisenheim University Administration: 3rd place with 4,300 meters
  • Turnerschaft Geisenheim: 4th place with 3,850 meters

The run was supported by Nassauische Sparkasse Geisenheim, the Vivana Fitness and Wellness Park, Rheingauer Volksbank, and Rheingausport Blenke. A total of €1,875 was raised for the new bench.

To wrap up the event, all participants received certificates, juice produced by the university, and small prizes – an excellent, energetic start to the semester marked by a strong sense of community and a tangible contribution to the campus.
