This project brings together several degree programs across different disciplines: Media Management and Business Informatics at Hochschule RheinMain, and the Crop and Horticultural Science master's degree program at Hochschule Geisenheim University. Under the leadership of Professor Johannes Luderschmidt, Laura Raff und Désirée Seeger (Media Management), Professor Holger Hünemohr, Professor Eva-Maria Iwer, Jan Kretschmar and Krzysztof Struzyna (Business Informatics), as well as Dr. Maren Stollberg (Horticulture), the project aims to develop new and sustainable concepts for greening the interiors of the C-South building on the Hochschule RheinMain's Unter den Eichen campus. To aid in this process, the two universities will hold three joint workshops.
Indoor Greening Supported by Applied Computer Science
“Our goal with the project is to develop a sophisticated concept for greening indoor spaces that's supported by technology and, as a result, to contribute to improving the area's interior climate and social atmosphere of the area,” explains Dr. Maren Stollberg. In the process, they will test a range of suitable plants will be tested in varying environments using different substrates, light conditions, and watering conditions, install an intelligent sensor to monitor developments, and employ automated care measures.
The horticultural aspects, the technical feasibility, and design-oriented visual communication are all central to the project. “The SNIB project shows how technology, design, and science can work hand in hand to create the sustainable learning and work environments of the future,” explains Professor Hünemohr.
