On Friday, November 7, the exhibition 'Ideas and Approaches for the BUGA 2029' was officially opened. BUGA, a shortening of 'Bundesgartenschau', is Germany's biennial federal horticultural show which will be held in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley in 2029. The exhibition presents visions and concepts for the future of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley region that were developed by students across various universities.

Participating institutions include Hochschule Geisenheim University, Bingen University of Applied Sciences, the University of Koblenz, and Koblenz University of Applied Sciences. The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the City of Rüdesheim am Rhein, the Rüdesheim Tourism Association, and BUGA 2029 gGmbH.

The exhibition features a wide range of topics and projects displayed in the form of posters, videos, and models. Highlights include the universities’ BUGA pavilion, concepts for the Hindenburg Bridge and the ‘Cross-River Rhine’ project, the Mittelrhein Eduventure project, studies on traffic noise and its impact on BUGA sites, ideas for the BUGA Harbor Park in Rüdesheim and for urban redevelopment, as well as impulses for tourism development and the ‘Europadreieck’ in Rüdesheim.

The patron of the exhibition is State Minister Ingmar Jung from the Hessian Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Viticulture, Forestry, Hunting, and Homeland. It will open to the public on the weekend of November 15–16, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is located in the Asbach Halls, Asbachgasse, Rüdesheim am Rhein.

Prominent Guests Attend Opening

Daniel Köfer, state secretary in the Hessian Ministry of Agriculture, delivered the opening address. He stated:
“BUGA 2029 is a unique collaborative project. In the long term, it will help further strengthen the attractiveness and vitality of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley as a place to live and work. This is why the State of Hessen is supporting the BUGA and the Hessian BUGA sites in Rüdesheim, Assmannshausen, and Lorch with more than ten million euros.”

The exhibition, he said, showcases the wide range of ideas, concepts, and planning approaches that will pave the way to a successful event. It clearly demonstrates the commitment, creativity, and expertise being invested in shaping this livable and forward-looking region.

Beforehand, guests were welcomed by Professor Hans Reiner Schultz, president of Hochschule Geisenheim University, as well as Sven Stimac, managing director of the Bundesgartenschau 2029, and Manuela Bosch, first councillor of the city of Rüdesheim am Rhein. The event was moderated by Nadja Hilfrich, a master's student studying Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning at Hochschule Geisenheim University.

Exhibited Designs Reflect Long-Standing Partnership

Since 2021, students from the study programs in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, and International Wine Business have been developing creative and sustainable ideas to reimagine and invigorate the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. The exhibition presents the results of this interdisciplinary collaboration and invites visitors to explore the diversity of ideas on display.
