How are the demands placed on urban trees changing? Which species are fit for the future? And how can researchers and industry partners work together to develop solutions to the challenges of urban tree care?
These questions – and many more – were addressed during the 25th Rhine-Main Tree Care Conference at Hochschule Geisenheim University on September 24-25. Held under the theme “review and outlook”, the Rhine-Main tree care working group and the university invited industry experts for a collaborative exchange.
“This year for the first time, we are delighted to welcome so many participants to the new Lecture Hall Building“, said Prof. Dr. Alexander von Birgelen. “The agenda invites us to reflect on the issues the industry has dealt with over the past 25 years, and look ahead to the challenges we will have to tackle. This tree care conference provides the perfect platform for a vivid exchange between industry representatives and scientific experts.”
The agenda featured topics such as the practical application of the i-tree tool, urban forestry, future-proof species for the generation after next and biodiversity in the canopies of native and non-native street trees.
For the first time, conference participants had the chance to explore the university from a different perspective through guided campus tours – featuring a visit to the arboretum as a particular highlight. The following get-together at the university’s Old Wine Barrel offered plenty of opportunities for personal exchange and networking.
The conference was organized by the Department of Urban Horticulture and Planting Design and was held during the Agri Food Week as part of the EU GIFT initiative.
The university would like to thank all speakers, participants, exhibitors and the organizational team for two days of insights and inspiration at Hochschule Geisenheim University!
