On February 15, 2019 it was time to celebrate at the Eberbach Monastery. 143 graduates of Hochschule Geisenheim University received their Bachelor and Master diplomas. For the very first time, students of the newly established "Food Safety" and "Logistics and Management of Fresh Products" degree programs graduated. 

Robert Lönarz, president of the Geisenheim Alumni Association, expressed his wish for the graduates to keep in touch with the university and make use of its unique network. Sister Maura Zátonyi of Saint Hildegard Abbey, Professor Hans Reiner Schultz, President of Hochschule Geisenheim University and Professor Otmar Löhnertz, Vice-president of Academic & Student Affairs, all congratulated the students.

Professor Grit Hottenträger, Professor Ernst Rühl and Prof. Klaus Werk are due to retire from Hochschule Geisenheim University 

Hochschule Geisenheim University also said good-bye to Professor Grit Hottenträger and Professor Klaus Werk, who are both retiring. Professor Grit Hottenträger taught the modules Society, Open Space Planning & History of Garden Architecture at Hochschule Geisenheim University, and the former “Forschungsanstalt”, for more than 20 years. Professor Klaus Werk started working at the FH Wiesbaden in 2002, teaching Environmental and Conservation Law. He was a member of several university committees and played an important role at the university. 

Hans Reiner Schultz, President of the University, also thanked Professor Ernst Rühl, who is retiring in February 2019. Professor Rühl is a long-standing member of the university staff, but due to a conference could not attend the event. Nonetheless, the audience was keen to show their appreciation with a round of applause.  

Hochschule Geisenheim University awards three prizes in Landscape Architecture for the first time

Landscape Architecture includes a great variety of subjects; for the first time not one, but three prize winners were elected, one from each specialization of the degree program - “open-space planning”, “landscape construction” and “conservation and landscaping”

The award is sponsored by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gartenkunst und Landschaftskultur e. V. (German Association for Horticultural and Landscape Design), the Bund Deutscher Landschaftsarchitekten (bdla) Hessen e. V. (Association of German Landscape Architects in Hessen), the Fachverband Garten-, Landschafts- und Sportplatzbau Hessen-Thüringen e. V. (Hessen/Thüringen Association for Gardening, Landscaping and Sports Grounds) and the Hessische Vereinigung für Naturschutz und Landschaftspflege e. V. ( Hessen Association for Nature Conservation and Landscaping). The awards went to: 

Elena Simon, for her thesis entitled: The beaver as an ecological engineer – how can these animals be integrated into nature conservation without causing conflict?

Maria Vatter and Anna Kühn, for Light Space; a thesis on the creation of a place of comfort for people of all cultures and religions at the Karlsruhe cemetery.

Adrian Keil, for his thesis entitled: The development of project management guidelines according to DIN 69901-05, dealing with the current challenges of the construction sector. 

Peter Romeis-Foundation honors graduates of the "Food Safety" degree program

The first graduates of the "Food Safety" degree program, Lea Unvericht and Nils Dächert, also received an award for their Bachelor theses. Lea Unvericht’s thesis was entitled: Implementation of a food fraud prevention system in medium-sized companies, while Nils Dächert’s title was: Development of a HAA Concept for Honey. The foundation supports research and education in the field of food and beverage technology and presented both students with book vouchers.
