The current Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs at Geisenheim University, Prof. Mirjam Hey, was confirmed in her position for another term at the end of last year. The Chemistry professor, who has been teaching and researching at Geisenheim University and its predecessor since 2003, thus began another three years in this important cross-disciplinary role at the turn of the year.

Since Geisenheim University does not have faculties, the Vice President also takes on the duties of a dean or dean of studies. She represents teaching and studies within the university, is responsible for the organization of programs and examinations, and also plays a leading role in coordinating the further development of the range of courses on offer.

"In my second term, I would like to focus on further expanding the attractiveness of our university in the area of teaching, especially in the current challenging environment. To this end, we are consistently developing our teaching and degree programs with a focus on practical relevance, future skills, internationalization, and clear strategic quality assurance. Sustainability, digitalization, and innovative learning formats such as blended learning and AI integration are central guidelines for our university-wide development,“ says Hey, explaining her priorities for her second term. “I am very much looking forward to working intensively on this together with the President’s Council, as well as with the individual heads of degree programs, student representatives, and all those involved in teaching," Hey continues.

Prof. Dr. Mirjam Hey received her doctorate in 2003 from the Institute of Food Chemistry at Goethe University Frankfurt. She then continued her scientific work at the Institute for Wine Analysis and Beverage Research at what was then the Geisenheim Research Institute. In December 2009, she was appointed to the professorship for chemistry at the Geisenheim Faculty of Hochschule RheinMain -  University of Applied Sciences and Arts, which was merged with the local research institute in 2013 to form the new Geisenheim University.
