University Winery Offers Refreshments at Berlin's 'Hessenfest'

For the first time, Hochschule Geisenheim University's own winery was represented at Hessenfest, the traditional summer festival held by the Hessian state government in Berlin.

The event, which took place last week, was once again a meeting point for a range of players from the world of politics and business. Alongside other federal politicians, Bundestag President Julia Klöckner and Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz were in attendance, having received invitations from Hesse's Minister of State, Manfred Pentz, and the Minister-President of Hesse, Boris Rhein.

At the Hessenfest, guests were treated to the flavors of the Rheingau, with wines and sparkling wines from 10 Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter-member wineries and various types of bread from Bäckerei Dries bakery. Over 2000 people used the chance to relax and socialize over drinks in the lounge area.

In addition to its classic Von Lade Riesling and Rosé Sekt, the university winery brought along its Cuvée Blanc, a blend of five novel fungus-resistant grape varieties (PiWis). The eye-catching new label designs, which draw on key concepts of sensory evaluation, sparked plenty of discussion. To ensure the crowds had other refreshing non-alcoholic options available, the university also provided a range of its own soda creations and a cola mix.

Unsurprisingly, Hochschule Geisenheim University drew considerable interest from Hessenfest's guests, who were warmly welcomed by the cheerful team behind the bar. Several politicians even joined in on the fun, pitching in to help pour drinks and offer reinforcement, turning the university's bar area into a lively hotspot. Among the impromptu bartenders were Minister President Boris Rhein, Science Minister Gremmels, and Agriculture Minister Ingmar Jung, all eager to take part in the action.
