Studying with a Practical Focus: Hochschule Geisenheim University Impresses Visitors at Study Info Day

On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Hochschule Geisenheim University opened its doors to welcome over 200 prospective students and industry representatives from across Germany. Between 1 – 6 pm, prospective students, parents and teachers took the opportunity to explore the practice-oriented range of programs and learn about the unique campus life in Geisenheim.

With a focus on the B.Sc. programs in Food Safety, Viticulture and Enology, International Wine Business, Beverage Technology, Horticulture as well as Landscape Architecture, visitors had the chance to get first-hand experience of what studying in Geisenheim is like. Through presentations, sample lectures and personal talks with teachers, students and alumni, they gained valuable insights into the programs’ content, job prospects and campus life. The program concluded with campus tours and advisory sessions on cooperative work-study programs, internationalization, scholarships and campus activities. Many of the university’s service centers also presented their range of services.

In addition to the presentation of the programs, the “Everyday Life at University and in the Workplace” sessions proved very popular with visitors. These sessions featured current students and alumni providing authentic insights into student life, internships and job prospects. Many visitors also took the chance to tour the labs, lecture halls, greenhouses and research areas of the university.

Prof. Mirjam Hey, Vice-President of Academic and Student Affairs, highlighted the special blend of scientific teaching, hands-on experience and personal atmosphere on campus. “The university offers a unique and flexible range of programs with a strong practical focus, small class sizes and an excellent student-teacher ratio. In Geisenheim, students really get to roll up their sleeves. Our programs address future-oriented topics such as the transformation of agriculture, safeguarding the quality of food products, innovations in the wine & beverage sector as well as in fruit, vegetable and ornamental plant cultivation, the development of cultural landscapes or the design of green areas in cities and rural areas. In addition, our students really appreciate the state-of-the-art facilities as well as the personal atmosphere on campus.”

The Study Info Day supports the university's aim of helping prospective students choose the right program early on by providing practical insights into the various career prospects of their programs.

As part of the Study Info Day, the university hosted a Fascination of Plants Day featuring exciting tours to four plant-themed stops across the campus, which invited visitors to explore topics such as the future of fruit and vegetable cultivation, computer-based plant simulations or new solutions to plant protection. A presentation of more than 200 shrub species was also part of the program.
