Committees and Participation

Boards and committees help shape the framework for doctoral studies at Hochschule Geisenheim University and represent the interests of doctoral candidates.

You will find information below about the Doctoral Committee and its members, as well as opportunities for doctoral candidates to get involved and have their interests represented.

Doctoral Committee

The Doctoral Committee oversees and makes decisions on key stages of the doctoral process. Its members are elected by the Senate of Hochschule Geisenheim University.

Composition
During the fourth term of office (through September 30, 2026), the Doctoral Committee consists of:

  • the Vice President for Research (Chair)
  • three professors
  • two academic staff members who hold a doctoral degree
  • one representative of the doctoral candidates, with a deputy and an advisory vote

Responsibilities
The Doctoral Committee is primarily responsible for:

  • admission to the doctoral process and decisions on applications
  • appointment of reviewers and supervisors
  • review of annual progress reports
  • appointment of the examination committee
  • coordination with partner universities, where required

Meetings and Deadlines
The Doctoral Committee generally meets twice per semester. Applications must be submitted no later than two weeks before the respective meeting.

Get Involved and Make a Difference

Why Get Involved?
Serving on university committees gives doctoral candidates the opportunity to gain insight into decision-making processes, contribute their perspectives, and play an active role in shaping the university. It also provides opportunities to connect with other members of the university community and gain experience in academic governance.

Ways to Get Involved
Doctoral candidates can serve on various university committees, including:

  • Senate
  • Doctoral Committee
  • Research and Development Committee (R&D Committee)

As elected representatives, doctoral candidates bring the interests and perspectives of their peers to these committees.
