Competence Center Cultural Landscape (CULT)

science.practice.discourse.

Today's modern age is causing great changes in cultural landscapes. The use of landscapes through intensification of land use (agriculture, forestry, settlements, energy generation etc.) leads to ever more profound changes in these high-quality cultural landscapes. Characteristics such as historical elements and diversity, which determine value are irretrievably lost.

The Competence Centre Cultural Landscape works on these current social challenges of sustainable development of the cultural landscape in a cooperative network. To this end, we organise specialist events and further training and thus promote the development of professional standards.

UENFW-Delegation meets with EU commissioner Günther Oettinger

[Translate to English:] UENFW-Präsident Robert Lönarz, UENFW-Ehrenpräsident Dr. Franz Josef Jung, Bundesminister a.D., EU Kommissar Günther Oettinger, UENFW-Generalsekretärin Erica Fischbach

On the occasion of the European Football Championship for Vintners (VINOEURO 2018), which took place in Slovenia at the end of May, the “Union of European National Football Teams for Winemakers” (UENFW) was founded. The union is an association under German law, founded by eight European countries that wish to promote wine, football and education as mutual European cultural products. The European association’s head office is at Hochschule Geisenheim University.

On February 27, 2019, a delegation of the UENFW met with EU commissioner Günther Oettinger at the Berlaymont-building, the European commission’s headquarters in Brussels.

The meeting was chaired by EU commissioner Günther Oettinger (Budget & Human Resources) and the UENFW’s president of honor, retired federal minister Doctor Franz Josef Jung. Phil Hogan’s Department of Agriculture & Rural Development, as well as Tibor Navracsic’s Department of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport were also part of the meeting.

UENFW President Robert Lönarz and General Secretary Erica Fischbach presented the aims of the "Union of European national football teams for winemakers e. V" and discussed possible cooperation projects, which could be coordinated by the head office in Geisenheim.

“Through our mutual interest in wine, football and education, we aim to build connections independently of language skills. Together with volunteer friends from eight European nations, we are working for a free, peaceful and friendly Europe”, said the team delegation.

“We are currently talking to Spain and France about including them in the initiative”. The International Organization for Vine and Wine, OIV, is already part of the project.

A follow-up meeting will take place in September 2019 in Strasbourg.

Doctor Franz Josef Jung, retired federal minister, is also head of the "Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Hochschule Geisenheim" (Association for the Promotion of Hochschule Geisenheim University). Doctor Jung celebrated his 70th birthday on March 5th – we hope he had a Happy Birthday!
