Applications are open to graduates of Hochschule Geisenheim University and Bingen Technical University of Applied Sciences who have studied in the areas of viticulture, wine business, beverage technology, horticulture, landscape architecture, food chain management, food safety, or agriculture.
Three prizes worth up to €6,000 are awarded annually. The selection process for the prizewinners is based on the quality of the students' final theses and their applications, but also considers any volunteer work completed during and after their studies as well as their educational paths – whether conventional or otherwise.
Students and/or alumni can submit a speculative application with a letter of motivation or a letter of recommendation. The decision is made by a board of trustees consisting of high-ranking representatives from the respective university and the prize sponsor Sibylle Fraund and her family.
A total of €180,000 was made available to Hochschule Geisenheim University for funding through the Geisenheim University Alumni Association (VEG).
The prize is named after Sibylle Fraund's husband, Dr. Eberhard Fraund, former publisher and partner of the renowned Dr. Fraund specialist publishing house, and his father, Adolf Fraund, co-founder of the publishing house's predecessor, Mainzer Zeitschriftenverlag Dr. Bilz & Co. GmbH. The award ceremony takes place annually in the fall
Application Period: July 1, 2025 – September 30, 2025
