The award commemorates Dr. Eberhard Fraund, former publisher and partner of the specialist publishing house Dr. Fraund, and his father Adolf Fraund, co-founder of its predecessor, Mainzer Zeitschriftenverlag Dr. Bilz & Co. GmbH. The aim of the award is to promote academic excellence and to recognize the commitment of young talent in both research and professional practice.
The award is presented in three categories, each carrying prize money of up to €6,000. It is open to graduates of Hochschule Geisenheim University and Bingen University of Applied Sciences in the fields of viticulture, wine business, beverage technology, horticulture, landscape architecture, food logistics and management, food safety, and agriculture. A total of €180,000 is available through the alumni association of Hochschule Geisenheim University.
The award recipients are selected by a committee made up of senior representatives from the participating universities, as well as the donor Sibylle Fraund and her family. The evaluation considers not only the quality of the final thesis and application materials, but also soft skills such as volunteer engagement and an individual – often unconventional – educational path.
This year, the following young talents were honored:
Sandra Eder – Master’s degree in Viticulture, Enology, and Wine Business
Jule Bergmann – Master’s degree in Food Safety
Elisabeth Neumann – Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture
The awards were ceremonially presented by the donor Sybille Fraund, Dr. Philipp Fraund, and Robert Lönarz, President of the V.E.G.
