President Prof. Dr. Hans Reiner Schultz

The President represents the university externally and supervises university staff. His right to supervise and instruct staff includes the proper fulfillment of their teaching and examination responsibilities assigned by the university. He is responsible for the proper operation of the campus and exercises the university's domiciliary rights.

The President's areas of responsibility include:

  • University development and strategic planning including construction projects
  • Scientific and social representation
  • Budget planning and investment decisions in cooperation with the President's Council
  • Personnel matters of professors as well as appointment and retention negotiations
  • University Council and Scientific Councils and Committees

CURRICULUM VITAE

Hans Reiner Schultz studied Viticulture & Enology at the University of Applied Sciences Wiesbaden (Faculty of Geisenheim). From 1983, he studied Plant Biology & Horticulture at University of California, Davis (UCD) in the USA (M.Sc. hort.), followed by a Ph.D. at Gießen University (in cooperation with UCD) in 1989. From 1990-1995, Hans Reiner Schultz held post-doc positions at UCD and Ecole Nationale Supérieure Agronomique in Montpellier, France. In September 1995, he became Head of the Department of Viticulture at the Research Institute in Geisenheim (FAG) together with a Professorship for General Viticulture at the University of Applied Sciences Wiesbaden (today Hochschule RheinMain). He became Director of FAG in 2009 and has been President of Hochschule Geisenheim University since its foundation in 2013. Hans Reiner Schultz is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Institut de Science de la Vigne et du Vin at Université de Bordeaux, the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops; the Vine and Wine Innovation Platform of Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e alto Douro, Vila Real, Portugal and the French excellence initiative LabEX Cote (continental to coastal ecosystems).
