What does the University Town of Geisenheim have to offer?

  • The town-center is walking distance from the uni campus, and has a range of supermarkets and other shopping possibilities, restaurants and cafes, as well as a movie-theater.

  • There are events organized by the town, throughout the year: for example, the Lindenfest, a Street Food Festival and the „Besser als nix!“-Festival for young culture in the Rheingau.
  • As well as numerous restaurants, the Straußwirtschaften (wine bars attached to wineries) offer students a relaxed atmosphere in which to meet friends and enjoy a glass of wine accompanied by regional food specialities.

Tip for first-semester students

At the beginning of the winter semester, the uni and student organisation (AStA) offer tours of the campus and town, so that new students can start to get their bearings!

The Rheingau: life in a unique cultivated landscape

The Rheingau is world-renowned for its Riesling, as well as for its castles, palaces and monasteries along the river. Only a few kilometers downriver, you find the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Middle Rhine Valley with the Loreley and Rüdesheim's Drosselgasse. The Rheingau is visted every year by millions of tourists from all over the world.

The unique cultivated landscape of the Rheingau, shaped by the river and by around 3,200 hectares of viticulture, can be enjoyed by hiking the Rheinsteig trail, or on a river cruise or a cycling trip rounded off with a glass of wine!
