Louis Blois successfully defended his doctoral thesis entitled "Genetic architecture of root-related traits and scion responses induced by grapevine rootstock - First study in a monospecies population of Vitis berlandieri" on March 28, 2023 at Hochschule Geisenheim University.

His bi-national Cotutelle-Doctorate was supervised by Prof. Dr. Joachim Schmid, Department Grapevine Breeding, Hochschule Geisenheim University and Dr. Elisa Marguerit,  Bordeaux Sciences Agro, France and jointly evaluated by Prof. Dr. Astrid Forneck, Institute of Viticulture and Pomology, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, Austria, Prof. Dr. Reinhard Töpfer, Julius-Kühn-Institut, Federal Research Centre for Cultivated Plants, Geilweilerhof, Germany and Prof. Dr. Joachim Schmid, Department Grapevine Breeding, Hochschule Geisenheim University.
