While a large part of university life took place in front of the computer over last three semesters, Hochschule Geisenheim University is planning to organize as many on-campus courses as possible in the upcoming winter semester 2021/22. "We are planning to return to a more or less normal semester, if the pandemic situation allows it", says Prof. Dr. Hans Reiner Schultz, President of Hochschule Geisenheim University. "As practical courses, exercises and projects are an integral part of our practice-oriented degree programs, they should take place in a normal setting again."

For students to return to campus, a high vaccination rate is essential according to the President. By June, the university was able to offer vaccinations for all on-site staff members, flanked by various other state-organized vaccinations campaigns for employees of the Federal State of Hesse. All students and first-semesters will have the opportunity to get vaccinated by the start of the new semester on October 18, 2021,

In addition, Hochschule Geisenheim University has a comprehensive hygiene concept for courses and events on campus, including distance regulations and rules on wearing mouth-and-nose coverings. The university will closely monitor the development of the pandemic in order to adapt the hygiene concept to the current situation. "Nevertheless, we think it is important to bring students back on campus and give them the opportunity to interact with fellow students and lecturers; the social aspect of studying must no longer be neglected," emphasizes Schultz.
