Geisenheim Professor Appointed OIV Honorary President

Prof. Dr. Monika Christmann, Head of the Department of Enology at Hochschule Geisenheim University, chaired the 19th OIV General Assembly (International Organization of Vine and Wine) in Paris on July 12, 2021, standing in for the outgoing President and new Vice President, Regina Vanderlinde, who was unable to enter the country due to quarantine requirements.

The 19th General Assembly elected Luigi Moio as the new OIV President with a three-year term and appointed Christmann as the new Honorary President. Following the elections, the General Assembly adopted a total of 19 resolutions. This year, the subject of biodiversity was included as a key part of the resolutions. Furthermore, Dijon was proposed as the new OIV host city and Russian was adopted as the sixth official language.

The OIV is an intergovernmental organization with renowned scientific and technical expertise in the field of vines, wine, wine-based beverages, table grapes, raisins and other vine-based products.
