The "Königlich Preußische Lehranstalt für Obst- und Weinbau" (Royal Prussian College for Fruit Growing and Viticulture), founded by Baron Eduard von Lade in Geisenheim, was officially inaugurated on October 19, 1872, and has grown to become an independent university on 01 January 2013.
