Hochschule Geisenheim University’s Pre-Studyplus Project

Funding Program: “Open Universities - Utilising Potential, Preparing Transitions”

Pre-Studyplus was launched as an innovative and increasingly integrative addition to the support services of the International Office at Hochschule Geisenheim University. This project will be expanding and continuing the successful work carried out by the previous "Pre-Study" project, which ran from 2015 to 2019. Pre-Studyplus is funded within the framework of the program "Open Universities - Utilizing potentials preparing transitions" by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art and the European Social Fund (ESF) of the European Union. The aim of the project is to offer international students and first-year students in particular, but also other students in need of support in the introductory phase of their studies, a competence-oriented preparation for their studies that is tailored to the university. Hochschule Geisenheim University is reacting to the increasing diversity of educational careers and the necessity to adapt support offers to this diversity. The main focus is to

- facilitate the entry into studies and improve the ability to study
- ensure the success of the studies
- improve the integration of international students.

Learning Opportunities

Many of Hochschule Geisenheim University’s degree programs require good knowledge of natural sciences. Students will be helped in these areas through bilingual e-learning or blended learning course offers, which will help their start in their degree programs.

Key competencies

Within the framework of Pre-Studyplus, students should have the opportunity to acquire the key competencies that are important for successfully completing their studies through bilingual self-study courses and also in workshops.

Subject-specific German language acquisition

Subject-specific language acquisition is an essential key to successful studies and later career opportunities. Pre-Studyplus will be offering international students support in the acquisition of specific technical terms needed in Geisenheim German degree programs through a digital language tool. Language tandems will also be organized.

Support in the organisation of student life

In addition to offering learning opportunities, Pre-Studyplus will develop support services for prospective international students to help with admission requirements, finding accommodation and identifying funding and financing possibilities.
