Climate impacts on irrigation of open field vegetables using onions as an example, taking into account different growing regions and climate models (KliWaZwi)

Model regions "Hessisches Ried" and "Uetze-Peine-Lehrte"
Model regions "Hessisches Ried" and "Uetze-Peine-Lehrte"

Project period
2018

Aim of the study is the evaluation of the climate change impact on irrigation water demand, cultivation period and nitrate leaching endangerment of open field vegetable crops using onion as model crop. Variations on local scale are to be highlighted and assessed by considering a Hessian and Lower Saxony cultivation region. Therefore crop specific as well as regional vulnerabilities of water deficit are determined. Resource-conserving irrigation strategies as well as production adjustments of vegetable open field production shall be derived.
