Hochschule Geisenheim University to Present a Wide Range of Topics from Research and Practice at ProWein 2020

As well as the student advisory service at Hochschule Geisenheim University's stand C71 in Hall 14, experts will be on hand to provide information in a range of formats on such topics as start-ups, climate change and how transport can affect wine.

The impact of climate change on the global wine industry is the focus of the current ProWein Business Report, for which experts from Hochschule Geisenheim University polled more than 1,700 industry insiders from 45 countries on international wine markets, marketing trends and business conditions. The results of the survey will be presented by Professor Simone Loose, Head of the Department of Wine and Beverage Economics at the University, together with Michelle Bouffard to mark the opening of ProWein Düsseldorf. On Sunday, March 15, 2020, experts will be discussing this highly topical subject and potential problem-solving strategies together with international industry representatives at stand 03/north entrance from 11:00 a.m. onwards.

From studies to start-up: setting up business in the beverage industry

In addition to the ProWein Business Report, Hochschule Geisenheim University's focus for this year's ProWein exhibition is on start-ups in the beverage industry. The start-up company ebb & flow will be presenting itself at the University's stand on each day of the trade fair. Three Geisenheim alumni will be serving wine and spritzer from stainless steel kegs. Their sustainable business model, for which they received a Hessen Ideen scholarship, involves selling wine and craft drinks in standardized kegs for conventional dispensing systems in the B2B sector, along with a corresponding deposit system.

On Sunday, 15 March 2020, at 11:00 a.m. and again at 3:30 p.m., Dr. Elena Siebrecht, Knowledge Transfer Manager at Hochschule Geisenheim, will be advising visitors to the University stand on how to set up a company. Together with EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht and financial support from the EXIST Potential funding program financed by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), the University is currently developing the Rheingau Business Start-up Center, which will not only support start-ups, but also provide consulting and coaching services in the field of business succession.

With the support of the ebb & flow team and the MadDrinks start-up, Siebrecht will also be talking about the topic of "From studies to start-up: setting up business in the beverage industry" at the WEIN+MARKT forum in Hall 14, Stand A71 - A90 on Sunday between 2:30 and 3:15 pm. MadDrinks, which has also been granted a Hessen Ideen scholarship for developing the exotic wine cocktail NicoTico, will present the story of its development from the kitchen of a shared flat to the actual finished drink.

Insights into current research findings

Visitors to the Hochschule Geisenheim University's stand will, of course, also be able to obtain insights into the institution's scientific profile. The University's Department of Enology is currently researching the analytical and sensory effects of different transport conditions on wine. On Monday, March 16, 2020, Professor Rainer Jung and Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Christoph Schuessler will present the latest research and initial findings. They will be available at 11:00 a.m. and again at 3:00 p.m. to answer questions and discuss current enological topics.
