Pre-Study Project

Support at the Beginning of Your Studies - the Pre-Study Project for International Applicants and Students

funded by grants of the European Social Fund (ESF) and the State of Hessen

Are you looking to start studying for a Bachelor’s degree at Geisenheim University (HGU) and need help with the preparation?

Living and studying in a foreign country can be challenging: you have to learn about life in a new culture as well as a new language. The interdisciplinary team at HGU offers international applicants optimal preparation for their studies in the form of attractive advisory services and projects. We offer you support and guidance on your way to Geisenheim.

The Pre-Study Project is part of “Potenziale nutzen. Hochschule-Integration-Arbeitsmarkt”, a joint project of Hessen’s higher education institutions, and of the HGU project“Geisenheim international – study&more”, and is supported by grants from the European Social Fund and the Hessen State Ministry for Higher Education, Research and the Arts.

What we offer
  • Free German courses (depending on demand)
  • Support in organizing the obligatory pre-study internship (8 – 26 weeks depending on the degree program) with a recognized company here in Geisenheim or the surrounding area. Plan enough time for this prior to your studies!
  • Help with the application via uni-assist
  • Support from Geisenheim students (Buddies) who will help you adjust to student life, as well as life in Germany.
  • Advice from our project team on organizing your life and studies, residence regulations, insurance, university admission, financing your studies etc.
What do the Buddies do?

The International Office currently employs a number of student Buddies, who offer support to international applicants, students and refugees. You will have the possibility to get in contact with a Buddy before you even begin you studies in Geisenheim, and have support in such matters as looking for somewhere to live. They also offer help with

  • study preparation: tips regarding the pre-study internship or German language courses
  • getting to know your new living environment
  • meeting new people
  • dealing with the authorities, university schedules, doctors, banks, etc.

Particularly at the beginning of the semester, the Buddies organize excursions and meetings to help you get to know other students.

They are also available for help any time during your studies.
