More 1,000 students from around 70 universities and institutions of higher education took part in the competition organized by the "VerkehrsRundschau" trade journal.

Five questionnaires each comprising ten assignments from the fields of supply chain management, transport and logistics were completed by students as part of the nationwide "Logistik Masters" competition organized by the VerkehrsRundschau trade journal in summer 2019. Students of Food Chain Management from Hochschule Geisenheim University took part in the competition for the first time, coming in at a respectable ninth place among all of the participating universities of applied sciences. The Geisenheim students ranked 17th out of almost 70 participating universities and insititutions of higher education.

"This is a great result considering it's our debut in the "Logistik Masters" competition", said Prof. Dr. Andreas Holzapfel, Professor for Logistics Management. The Logistics degree program at Hochschule Geisenheim University was launched in the 2015/16 winter semester as Logistics for Fresh Produce; this semester its focus has been extended from fresh produce to food items in general. "The particular strength of the degree course is its practical relevance. Through project work, students come up with solutions for real problems independently early on in their studies. By taking part in field trips and a twelve-week practical module they learn the production processes in the food industry. Participating in competitions such as this one also provides them with the opportunity to apply and review what they know."

The Food Chain Management Bachelor degree program at Hochschule Geisenheim University provides students with the latest specialist knowledge and expertise on all aspects of food management, in addition to the planning and management of value creation and supply chains. As well as teaching in-depth product knowledge, the degree program focuses on topics such as production, quality and packaging, process management, storage and transport, and the marketing of foodstuffs.

By selecting a profile, students can specialize in fresh product logistics, supply chain management and food management. The courses on offer are aimed at high school graduates with an interest in food and logistics as well as individuals who have completed an apprenticeship in the food trade, industry, commerce or logistics.
