The European Association of Wine Economists (EuAWE) aims to strengthen the collaboration between researchers and the wine industry and to promote synergies between different research networks. To that end, the current ProWein Business Report was a perfect subject to kick off the digital series of seminars organized by the EuAWE in early March 2021.

The report quantifies global implications of Covid-19 on the different areas of the wine sector and evaluates expectations for the necessary future alignment of the wine industry. In addition to assessing the current threat to the industry posed by Covid-19 and the resulting deterioration of the economic situation, the analysis also addresses other challenges such as climate change, healthcare policy and the international trade war. Therefore, the report provides groundbreaking results – not only for the wine industry but also for scientists who are specialized in the wine sector. As part of the kickoff event, the two lead authors, Prof. Simone Loose and Dr. Signe Nelgen from the Department of Wine and Beverage Business at Hochschule Geisenheim University presented their report, followed by a lively discussion with more than 30 wine economists from different countries.
