Successful Premiere: A lot of Interest in Hochschule Geisenheim University's first "Digital Study Info Day"

More than 200 people visited seven webinars and nine chatrooms to find out more about our bachelor's degree programs in the areas of foodstuffs, beverages, landscape and plants. Direct interaction with teaching staff, students and alumni was also 'virtually' possible.

In a very unusual scene at Hochschule Geisenheim University's Study Info Day, on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, Prof. Alexander von Birgelen, Vice President for Teaching, delivered his welcome address to an empty lecture hall. The long-planned Study Info Day, usually held on campus, had been switched to digital format due to current contact restrictions, with the welcome address delivered via online live-stream.

After the welcome, though, information about studying at the public university in the Rheingau could be accessed at almost as normal: in webinars with degree program heads, students and alumni; in chatrooms with Student Services, student representatives or pre-study internship advisors. 20 sample lectures were available online as well as 360° views of the green campus with its listed parks, laboratories, lecture halls and spacious research areas.

The first digital Study Info Day met with a positive response from prospective students, with around 200 attending the presentations of the bachelor's degree programs alone - Horticulture, Beverage Technology, International Wine Business, Landscape Architecture, Food Logistics and Management, Food Safety, and Viticulture and Enology - to get information on the course contents and requirements. Many participants praised the chance for active exchange on questions concerning the pre-study internship, the application process and dual entry opportunities.

Hochschule Geisenheim University's next Study Info Day is planned for November 4, 2020; and whether it is held on campus, digitally, or a happy mix of both, information will be available in good time at
