The Sparkling Wine Forum is an international scientific forum for the sparkling wine industry. This year was the third time this event has taken place, this time in the Champagne region of France.
The organizers of the Sparkling Wine Forum once more invited Hochschule Geisenheim University to take part. At its stand, the university had the chance to introduce interested guests to its research and degree programs, as well as present on current sparkling wine projects run by the Department of Enology.
As part of the conference taking place at the same time, Dr. Matthias Schmitt presented on the topic of partial dealcoholization of wine as a way of safeguarding the second fermentation and preserving the quality of sparkling wine.
A subsequent masterclass by Dr. Matthias Schmitt and Lorenzo Italiano on the topic of ‘No-Lo Alcohol Wines’ covered the technological options for alcohol reduction and the enological options that are useful for compensating for the removed alcohol. The presentation was accompanied by five different flights of experimental wines with reduced alcohol content.
