The implementation of a doctoral project at the Hochschule Geisenheim University is linked to a number of applications, agreements and duties.

  • An application for admission as a doctoral candidate has to be submitted to the head of the doctoral committee within a period of 6 months after beginning the doctoral project at the Hochschule Geisenheim University. Knowledge of the doctorate regulations of the Hochschule Geisenheim University (Promotionsordnung der Hochschule Geisenheim) as well as the statute of safeguarding good scientific practice and avoiding scientific misconduct (Satzung zur Sicherung guter wissenschaftlicher Praxis und Verfahrensregeln für den Umgang mit wissenschaftlichen Fehlverhalten) is essential.

  • At the same time a supervision agreement is to be concluded with the respective principal supervisor. This supervision agreement is aimed to render the relationship between the doctoral candidate and his/her supervisor transparent with respect to content and time.

  • To perform a doctorate at the Hochschule Geisenheim University the involvement of a department of a German or foreign doctorate granting university is indispensable. For that purpose only universities with which the Hochschule Geisenheim University has concluded a cooperation agreement can be considered. An early establishing contact to the university partner, who will co-supervise the doctoral project with regard to methodology and content, is advisable.

The programme of the graduate school is aimed at all phD students (internal and external). Each doctoral candidate attends three compulsory modules as well as three optional ones until completion of his/her doctoral project. After participation, a certificate will be issued. Furthermore, the participation at twelve lecture events of the graduate school until completion of the doctoral project is compulsory. Each doctoral candidate holds an introductory presentation of his doctoral project when beginning and a final presentation when his/her doctoral work ends. The offered seminars are subject to an internal quality management by the doctoral committee of the Hochschule Geisenheim University.
The doctoral candidate is committed to report once a year to the doctoral committee on the progress of his/her doctoral work.
An enrollment at the Hochschule Geisenheim University is voluntary.
